The Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) is Amazon's flagship streaming stick — sitting above the 4K Plus in the range and just below the Fire TV Cube. But does the premium justify itself for everyday UK buyers?
Design & Build
The 4K Max looks identical to other Fire TV Sticks from the outside. It's slim, lightweight, and plugs directly into your TV's HDMI port. The real differences are all inside: a more powerful processor, doubled storage (16 GB vs 8 GB), and most importantly, Wi-Fi 6E support.
Wi-Fi 6E: A Real-World Difference?
Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band, which is currently far less congested than 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. In a busy flat or house with many connected devices, this can result in noticeably more stable streaming. If you've ever had buffering issues with older streaming devices, Wi-Fi 6E is a meaningful upgrade.
Picture Quality
Like the 4K Plus, the 4K Max supports 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. The picture quality ceiling is identical to the 4K Plus — both can output the best quality a compatible TV can display. The 4K Max doesn't improve picture quality over the Plus, but its faster processor makes navigation and app switching noticeably snappier.
Performance
This is where the 4K Max genuinely earns its price. Apps load quickly, switching between IPTV channels is faster, and the interface never feels sluggish. With 16 GB of storage you can install more apps without worrying about running out of space.
Verdict
The 4K Max is the best Fire TV Stick if you want zero compromises on performance. The 4K Plus is nearly as good for most users. But if you have a busy home network, a 4K TV, and want the fastest possible streaming experience, the 4K Max is worth the premium.
