The first time you turn on a Firestick, it walks you through a guided setup process. Here's what to expect and what to do at each step.
Step 1: Plug In and Turn On
Make sure the Firestick is plugged into an HDMI port and the power cable is connected to a mains socket. Turn on your TV and select the HDMI input for the Firestick. You'll see the Amazon Fire TV startup screen.
Step 2: Pair the Remote
The Firestick will attempt to pair with the remote automatically. If it doesn't pair within 30 seconds, hold the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds. See our remote pairing guide for more.
Step 3: Select Language and Region
Use the remote's directional pad to select your language (English UK) and your region. This affects regional content and interface language.
Step 4: Connect to Wi-Fi
Select your home Wi-Fi network from the list and enter your Wi-Fi password. Use the on-screen keyboard, navigated with the directional pad, or the voice button on the remote to say your password letter by letter. This is often the most time-consuming part of first setup.
Step 5: Sign In to Amazon
You'll be asked to sign in to your Amazon account or create a new one. If your Firestick was ordered through Amazon, your account may already be pre-registered on the device. Otherwise, enter your Amazon email and password.
Step 6: Configure Settings
You'll be offered various optional settings such as parental controls, location, and Alexa customisation. You can configure or skip these — all can be changed later in Settings.
Step 7: Start Using It
After setup completes, you'll land on the Fire TV home screen. From here, you can install apps, explore content, or — if you have an IPTV subscription from FirestickHub — install the IPTV player app and enter your credentials to start streaming. See our IPTV setup guide.
First-Time Use Tips
- Note which HDMI input number your Firestick uses — you'll select this every time
- Connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi for better performance if your router supports it
- Explore Settings early to configure display resolution, audio output, and TV controls
