The Fire TV Stick includes parental control features that let you restrict content by age rating, prevent in-app purchases, and control which apps children can access. Here's how to set them up.
How to Enable Parental Controls
- Go to Settings from the Fire TV home screen
- Select Preferences
- Select Parental Controls
- Toggle Parental Controls to On
- Create a 5-digit PIN when prompted — this PIN is required to change any parental control settings
Setting Content Rating Restrictions
Once parental controls are enabled, go to Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls > View & Purchase Restrictions. Here you can set the maximum viewable content rating:
- Little Kids (G equivalent)
- Kids (PG equivalent)
- Teen (PG-13 equivalent)
- Young Adults (15 equivalent)
- Adult (18 equivalent)
Content above the selected rating will be hidden or require the PIN to access.
Protecting Against Purchases
Under Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls > PIN-Protect Purchases, enable a PIN requirement for all app downloads and in-app purchases. This prevents children from accidentally (or deliberately) purchasing content.
Restricting App Access
For finer control over specific apps, individual apps can be removed from the home screen or restricted through Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
Amazon Household Profiles
If you have Amazon Household set up, you can create child profiles with built-in content restrictions specific to that profile. This is managed through your Amazon account at amazon.co.uk, not through the Firestick settings directly.
The PIN you set for parental controls is separate from your Amazon account password. Store it somewhere safe — you will need it to change any restricted settings.
