How to Manage Storage on a Firestick — Free Up Space

Published June 2025 · Updated September 2026 · FirestickHub

All Fire TV Stick models have limited internal storage — typically 8 GB or 16 GB. Once that fills up, the device can become slow, refuse to install new apps, and may show low storage warnings. Managing storage regularly keeps your Firestick running well.

How to Check Storage on Firestick

Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage. This shows your total, used, and available storage. If available storage is below 1 GB, it is time to free some up.

Delete Apps You Don't Use

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Select any app you no longer need and choose Uninstall. This is the most effective way to reclaim significant storage space.

Clear App Cache and Data

Within Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, you can also Clear Cache for individual apps without uninstalling them. For apps with large stored data (some games, download managers), you can also Clear Data — but this will sign you out and delete any locally stored content.

For more on this, see our Firestick cache clearing guide.

Remove Downloads

Some streaming apps allow you to download content for offline viewing. These downloads can take up significant storage. Open each app and look for a "Downloads" or "My Downloads" section to remove offline content.

Storage Management Tips

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max offers 16 GB internal storage — twice that of other Firestick models. If storage is a concern, this model gives more room.
