How to Uninstall Apps on a Firestick — Free Up Space

Uninstalling unused apps from your Firestick frees up storage space and can improve performance. Here's how to do it.

Method 1: From Settings

Go to Settings from the Fire TV home screen
Select Applications
Select Manage Installed Applications
Find and select the app you want to remove
Select Uninstall
Confirm by selecting Uninstall again

Method 2: From the Home Screen or App Grid

Navigate to the app on the home screen or in the app grid. Press and hold the Select button (centre of the directional pad). A menu appears with the option to Uninstall. Select it and confirm.

Method 3: Using Alexa Voice

You can also say "Alexa, uninstall [app name]". Alexa will confirm the uninstall request and remove the app.

What Happens After Uninstalling?

The app is removed from the device and its storage space is freed. Your account and subscription associated with that app (such as Netflix or a paid service) remains active — uninstalling the app does not cancel subscriptions. Subscriptions must be cancelled separately through the app or service provider.

After uninstalling, you can also clear any remaining data: go back to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select the app (if it still appears in the list), and choose Clear Data.

Can I Reinstall Later?

Yes. Any app previously downloaded can be reinstalled from the Fire TV app store at any time. Previously purchased apps (paid apps) can be re-downloaded without paying again. See our guide to installing apps on Firestick.

The Fire TV interface groups pre-installed apps and downloaded apps together. Some pre-installed apps cannot be uninstalled — only force-stopped and their cache cleared.
