An Amazon account is required to use a Firestick — it links the device to Amazon's services. Here's everything you need to know about setting up and managing your Amazon account on a Firestick.
Why You Need an Amazon Account
The Firestick uses your Amazon account to access the Fire TV interface, the Amazon Appstore, and Amazon's content services (Prime Video if you have Prime). You don't need an Amazon Prime subscription — a free Amazon account is sufficient. You can create one at amazon.co.uk.
How to Sign In to Amazon on Firestick
During initial setup, you'll be prompted to sign in. Enter your Amazon email address and password using the on-screen keyboard (navigated with the directional pad) or scan the QR code with the Amazon app on your phone.
Devices Registered to Your Account
When you order a Firestick through Amazon, it may be pre-registered to your account. This means when you first boot it, Amazon is already linked and setup is quicker.
How to Switch Amazon Accounts on Firestick
If you want to use a different Amazon account:
- Go to Settings
- Select My Account
- Select Amazon Account
- Select Deregister to remove the current account
- Sign in with the new account during the setup that follows
What Your Amazon Account Is Used For
- Installing apps from the Amazon Appstore
- Accessing Prime Video content (if you have Prime)
- Purchasing apps and making in-app purchases
- Linking Amazon Alexa to your Fire TV Stick
- Parental control settings and profiles
Amazon Account and IPTV
Your IPTV subscription is completely separate from your Amazon account. IPTV credentials (from FirestickHub or another provider) are entered into your IPTV player app — they are not connected to Amazon in any way. The Amazon account is just needed to run the Fire TV device itself and download apps.
For setting up IPTV after signing in to your Amazon account, see our IPTV setup guide.
