The Fire TV Stick includes a range of accessibility features designed to make streaming easier for users with visual, hearing, or mobility considerations.
Where to Find Accessibility Settings
All accessibility features are found under Settings > Accessibility from the Fire TV home screen.
VoiceView Screen Reader
VoiceView reads on-screen text and navigation aloud. It is designed for users with visual impairments. To enable: Settings > Accessibility > VoiceView > Enable VoiceView. Once enabled, use the Firestick remote with VoiceView's guidance. To disable it, press and hold the Back and Menu buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.
Subtitles and Closed Captions
Subtitles are available in most streaming apps. Enable them by pressing the Menu button during playback and looking for Subtitles or Closed Captions. Global subtitle settings (font size, style, colours) are under Settings > Accessibility > Subtitle Settings.
Audio Description
Audio description provides narration of visual elements for users who are blind or have low vision. This is controlled per-app — look for Audio Description in the app's audio track settings (usually accessed via the Menu button during playback).
High Contrast Text
Under Settings > Accessibility, you can enable High Contrast Text. This makes text in the Fire TV interface easier to read by increasing contrast between text and backgrounds.
Text Size
Under Settings > Accessibility > Text Size, you can increase the size of on-screen text in the Fire TV interface. This makes menus and labels easier to read without affecting in-app text (which is controlled by the individual app).
Screen Magnifier
The Screen Magnifier (Settings > Accessibility > Screen Magnifier) allows you to zoom in on any part of the Fire TV screen. Once enabled, press the Menu button three times rapidly to toggle zoom on and off.
Remote Accessibility
The voice button on the Alexa Voice Remote makes navigation easier for users who find the directional pad challenging. You can navigate most of the Firestick by voice — search for content, open apps, control playback, and access settings by speaking rather than pressing buttons.
The Alexa Voice Remote is particularly helpful for accessibility, as many common tasks can be accomplished by voice: "Alexa, turn on subtitles", "Alexa, open [app name]", "Alexa, pause", "Alexa, turn up the volume".
All FirestickHub Firestick packages include the Alexa Voice Remote as standard.
