Firestick Keeps Restarting — Causes and Fixes for Constant Reboots

Published June 2025 · Updated September 2026 · FirestickHub

If your Firestick is restarting itself repeatedly, it is usually caused by a power issue, software problem, or overheating. Here's how to diagnose and fix it.

1. Check the Power Supply

Insufficient power is the most common cause of spontaneous Firestick restarts. The Firestick requires a stable 5V/1A power supply. If you are using a TV USB port as a power source, the power may not be stable enough. Switch to the included mains USB adapter and a wall socket.

2. Check for Loose Power Connections

A partially connected USB power cable can cause intermittent power delivery, leading to restarts. Ensure the cable is firmly connected to both the Firestick and the adapter.

3. Overheating

Firesticks can overheat if placed in an enclosed space (such as inside a TV cabinet with no airflow) or in a warm environment. Signs of overheating include a warning message appearing before a restart. Ensure the Firestick has adequate ventilation — using the HDMI extender cable to move it away from the back of the TV can help airflow.

4. Software Issue — Force a Restart

A corrupted software state can cause restart loops. Unplug the Firestick from power completely, wait 60 seconds, and plug it back in. This forces a clean boot. Also check for available software updates via Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for System Update when the device is stable enough to access settings.

5. App Conflict

A recently installed or updated app may be causing a crash loop. If the restarts began after installing a particular app, uninstall it: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > select the app > Uninstall.

6. Factory Reset

If the restarts persist, a factory reset is the most thorough solution. See our complete Firestick reset guide. Note that you will need to reinstall apps and reconfigure settings after a reset.

If the Firestick shows a low power warning (lightning bolt icon in the corner of the screen) before restarting, the power supply is definitely the issue — switch to the mains adapter immediately.
